I take this opportunity to bring Christmas Greetings to all members of the Cooperative Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago (CCULTT), all members of the Cooperative Credit Union Movement and all citizens of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. On behalf of the Executive and Board of Directors of the Cooperative Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago, I wish each and everyone a very Holy, Blessed and Peaceful Christmas Season, one filled with joy and happiness and one characterized by the observation and respect for the true meaning for the celebrations, the Birth of Jesus Christ.
To place context to my message, I would like to reiterate the Seven (7) Cooperative Principles:
These Principles clearly demonstrates a very close affinity to the principles that Christ stood for. What clearly stands out as a common outcome of the belief in those principles is the realization of equity and social justice for all mankind.
The Cooperative Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago has stood steadfast in its advocacy for the upward mobility of all members of the Cooperative Credit Union Fraternity. We believe that an enhanced and enlightened Movement firmly grounded in the values enunciated by the seven (7) Cooperative Principles would certainly achieve the kind of Social Justice and Equity that Christ stood for. We have over the years developed strategies and programmes aimed at adding value to the standard of living of the working class and ordinary citizens of Trinidad and Tobago. We have also stood up against what we perceive to be injustices against the Cooperative Credit Union Movement, since any injustice meted out to this Movement would certainly retard the social and economic development of members of the Movement and by extension impact negatively on the overall Socio-Economic development of the Country.
It is with an immense sense of pride that I boldly state that the Cooperative Credit Union Movement has over the years contributed immensely to the Gross Domestic Product of our country, but more significantly the Movement has made an indelible and invaluable contribution to the Social and Economic stability of the Country. This accomplishment was made possible and continues to be a reality through our moral, ethical and social moorings, our cooperation among cooperators and our deep concern for our various communities. It is in this vein that I make the connection with Jesus Christ’s sojourn on earth. By our strict adherence to the Cooperative Principles, we have ensured that our quest for Equity, Social Justice and the Economic Development of Ordinary Citizens and Christ purpose on Earth, are synergistically interconnected.
I take this opportunity to implore all those more fortunate Citizens to share a thought for those who are underprivileged and less possessed. Let us share some joy with those who are physically, mentally, socially, economically and spiritually challenged. Let us give generously to the needy and ensure that they can also share in the Joy and Happiness of the Season. I also urge all Citizens to exercise restraint and temper the over indulgence of valuable financial resources on wanton spending as Christ was never one to support his type of behaviour. Please exercise a high level of control in the consumption of Alcohol and Food since greed and recklessness are not behaviours that Christ stood for.
Over the years, we have witnessed a steady and frightening decay in the spiritual and moral fabric of our society and as such, this Christmas Season should be used as a Season of Sober Reflection and Redirection, as we seek to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and continue on our Crusade seeking Equity and Social Justice for all. Let us all enjoy a Merry Christmas and truly redirect our attention and focus towards the spirituality that the season really represents
As we celebrate the birth of the world’s greatest leader – JESUS CHRIST; let’s commit to continue to adhere to the Cooperative Principles.
On behalf of the Cooperative Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago, I wish all citizens of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, a Holy, Peaceful and Merry Christmas filled with Blessed Joy.
ONE MOVEMENT, SPEAKING WITH ONE VOICE!
