Dr. Amery Browne delivers the Feature Address while League Chief Operating Officer, Dianne Joseph and Vice President Desmond Baxter listens. The Cooperative Credit Union League launched its 2015 Annual Calendar of Events today at the Radisson Hotel, Port of Spain on January 22, 2015.

The launch of this Calendar serves as a pointer for the League in our continuous journey towards the total development of our member units and the wider national community. We believe that as an Umbrella Organisation, it is our responsibility to lead the charge in ensuring that all our units and their members are armed with the requisite proficiency and knowledge to operate in this turbulent economic environment.  It is imperative that we carefully examine the dynamic needs that are required for the sustainability and professional development of our movement. We are mindful of the need for continuous training and development and as such, we have structured a Calendar of Events that exemplifies that mix and balance of activities that would provide developmental opportunities at the individual and organizational level while recognizing the social responsibility of the Cooperative Credit Union Movement, particularly at this time in our country, where we are witnessing serious challenges to the social fabric of our society.

Honourable Rudranath Indarsingh (right) receives a token of appreciation, from League President, Joseph Remy.We have carefully looked at the global environment and have designed programs that will allow, not only credit unions, but every organization or individual to participate  and benefit.

We are well aware that quality leadership is critical for the success of any organization and encourage the national community to join in with a view to gaining the necessary competencies which will allow for steering each organization in the right direction and to keep abreast of the competition in the current aggressive economic climate.

Some of the key features of the Calendar include but are not limited to programs such as Small Business Development, Anti Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism measures, all AML/CFT Compliance needs, Conflict Resolution, Financial Literacy, Governance, Career Management,  FATCA, the Audit Function, Writing of Minutes, Credit Evaluation techniques and Delinquency and Risk Management.

Dr Amery Browne, Member of Parliament for Diego Martin Central delivered the Feature Address on the theme “Equality of Inspiration” and its importance for everyone, but more importantly our children. He had the audience glued to their seats as he highlighted several key factors relative to the importance and need for equality of inspiration. Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and the Economy, Hon Rudranath Indarsingh, brought greetings and launched the Calendar.  League President, Mr Joseph Remy addressed among other matters, the Movement’s concerns on the Draft Credit Union Bill, Mr Wayne Cordner spoke on behalf of CUNA and Mr David Moe on behalf of the Commissioner.

Speaking about the significance of the event, League’s Chief Operating Officer, Ms Dianne Joseph stressed the need for Leaders to submit to continuous training and development and advised against accepting leadership positions if they do not possess the desire to enhance their skills and abilities moreso, that the current economic environment dictates that a high level of technical skills and capability are required if an organization is to survive. She highlighted the fact that Strategic and Tactical Planning and careful deliberations and modernization of operations cannot be over-emphasized at this time.

The Launch of the 2015 Calendar of Events, points the Movement in a direction that would certainly see us retooling and restructuring ourselves to come to the rescue of our beloved Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, which at this moment is seemingly headed in a direction of social, moral, spiritual and economical distress. We vow to take the necessary action to ensure that this does not take root in a manner that will adversely affect our members.
